Welcome!

Jaimie Velasquez, MA, AMFT

I’m Jaimie, a second-generation Filipina-American with a MA in Clinical Psychology with a focus on Marriage and Family Therapy from Pepperdine Graduate School of Education and Psychology and a BA in Psychology from Loyola Marymount University. I love working with adults and teens facing life transitions, interpersonal conflicts, emotional outburst and struggle with anxiety, depression, trauma, shame, and perfectionism

My training at Violence Intervention Program in East Los Angeles challenged me to build awareness and curiosity around the uncomfortable parts of life as I supported individuals that experienced various types of violence, including family, interpersonal, and societal trauma. I view therapy as an opportunity to create a new blueprint on how you want to live your most meaningful life. We do this through the use of Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and creative expression. Through my training in EMDR and DBT, I have learned to be grateful for emotions and to move towards the uncomfortable. I believe building awareness and being curious around the uncomfortable parts of your life may provide an emotional understanding that could help you feel reconnected to yourself. Through compassion and humor, I aspire to create a holding space without assumption and judgements, instead filled with exploration, openness, and creativity.

Therapy can be an engaging and expansive experience; by digging deeper and not only asking why but also how and what questions, I hope that my clients will be able to look in their rear view mirror and make sense of their lives so that they can feel present and deserving with the world around them.  This matters because normalizing the uncomfortable and validating both positive and negative emotions decreases the cycle of avoidance and unhelpful distractions.

A session with me could be described as empowering, authentic, and out of the box due to my use of creative techniques that help my clients discover themselves through their discomfort.
